Two Porsches and one specific realization
Driving a Porsche is special. Especially when you get to drive two of the legends from different decades at the limit. The RTL II motorsport magazine “GRIP” filmed a very fascinating comparison between the 918 and the 959 at BILSTER BERG.
For many, a Porsche is one hell of a perfect sports car. For proper proof, a simple formula is recommended: Two classic Porsches, professional drivers and a clear, preferably challenging, diverse track. This is why Porsche invited the RTL II motorsport magazine “GRIP” to the Bilster Berg: two of their super sports cars had to be tested by the team of racing drivers and presenters of the broadcasting format. “And we agreed enthusiastically,” says “GRIP” editor Florian Kiefer. To be precise, the combination looked like this: a 918, a super modern hybrid super sports car with 887 hp and a 959, plus the two “GRIP” presenters Matthias Malmedie and Niki Schelle, both with racing licences. “As an additional highlight, Porsche also brought a very special test dirve: Marc Lieb, 2016 Le Mans winner and Porsche works driver,” says Kiefer. Only the weather wasn’t good during the shoot at the BILSTER BERG – it rained heavily. “It was a big challenge for the drivers because the vehicles are of course very exclusive and high-value and the cars often had no grip on the track due to the wetness,” says Kiefer. The “GRIP” team and the Le Mans winner nevertheless mastered the test drives. “And for drivers, production and camera team we had to do it twice: The scenes showing the Porsche 918 and 959 from the spectator’s point of view at the racetrack were filmed by the crew in the aftermath. The driving scenes were re-enacted and re-shot to match the comments and testimonials by Matthias Malmedie and Niki Schelle from the well-known on-board moderation and the first tour. In a third run, “GRIP” then presented the classic cars on the premises of the BILSTER BERG and in appropriate lighting for the so-called design shots. So Porsche lovers can look forward to this Sunday, as it is the broadcast date for – as Kiefer says – the “Fascinating Comparison of Two Super Sports Cars”.
