The BILSTER BERG has been providing apprenticeships for event managers since 2013. The first trainee, Philip Hagemann, was able to start at the BILSTER BERG in the summer of 2013 after passing his A-levels. He has remained loyal to BERG to this day. As deputy noise protection officer and track safety operator, he is now responsible for smooth and safe track operation. But he is also still on duty today as a customer service representative at events. In August 2021, the fifth trainee was hired since the opening.

So far, one apprenticeship was offered every two years at the BILSTER BERG. Contrary to this tradition, a second apprentice was hired in 2021. There is a special reason why Julia-Sophie Fischer, the second trainee, is joining the team: the 19-year-old has already been supporting the team at BILSTER BERG since the beginning of May as a voluntary trainee in such an excellent way that the management wanted to give her an apprenticeship. “It is especially important to us this year to help young people find their way into working life, because the situation on the labour market has worsened even more due to the Corona pandemic. It was therefore quickly clear that we would like to train Ms Fischer as an event manager at the BILSTER BERG starting 01.08.2021,” says Katja Ropeter, assistant to the management and responsible for human resources issues.

Jorina Stütze had no contact with motorsport before her training. Her partner had motivated the 21-year-old to apply at the BILSTER BERG. She says: “My enthusiasm for motorsport only developed through my work here at the BERG. In the meantime, I find it fascinating what drivers and cars achieve.” Julia-Sophie Fischer, on the other hand, grew up with cars through her father’s company. She feels most at home among lots of cars, especially fast ones. So an apprenticeship at the BILSTER BERG was an obvious choice.

Jorina and Julia-Sophie decided to train as event managers because the profession is very diverse and varied. “I particularly like the mix of office work and direct customer contact. In customer service, you’re right in the middle of things and always have something to do,” says Julia-Sophie Fischer. Jorina Stütze, a second-year apprentice, adds, “You make sure people have an unforgettable day and get to know many different people. No two days are the same.”

During your training as an event manager, you will go through all departments at BILSTER BERG. From the technical department to marketing, accounting and of course event management, you get an insight into the different activities. The two trainees agree: what they enjoy most is customer service at events. “But it’s always exciting to see that the track can not only be used for trackdays, but also provides the right setting for photo and film shoots or even commercials,” says Jorina Stütze.

“The BILSTER BERG is located in the middle of nature. That’s not the first thing you expect from a test and presentation track. For me, this is also what makes the BILSTER BERG such a special place to work,” says Julia-Sophie Fischer. Jorina Stütze adds: “I also really appreciate the good working atmosphere.”

What the future holds for the two trainees remains to be seen. So far, the BILSTER BERG has been able to offer all its trainees a permanent contract. And one thing is certain: the two trainees can already imagine staying part of the team at BILSTER BERG.
